Student Hotel   

Our international students and foreign guests may be accommodated in the Teaching and Hotel Building (Building P) at 25  Pułaskiego Street in Katowice, which is only a 10 minutes’ walk from the University and 15  minutes’ from the city centre. What makes it even more convenient is the fact that the building comprises both accommodation and teaching facilities, with lectures and seminars taking place right on the spot. It is worth noting that the building is very modern and fully accessible for  people with physical disabilities. The rooms are spacious and cosy, with comfortable bathrooms and kitchen facilities, fully furnished and equipped with telephone, TV and stereo sets. Access to the Internet is also available. The visitors do not have to bring their own bed sheets, dishes or other basic items but the disadvantage of this hotel is that you are away from Polish student and from the vivid student life.

The prices range between PLN 1470 and PLN 2040 (around EUR 380 up to EUR 530 for an apartment) per room per month.

Dormitory

We have a limited number of places for our international students - distributed on a first-come first-served basis. The dormitory is situated about 20 minutes by bus (very good public transport connections) from the main University buildings. Ligota is a green and peaceful district of Katowice, with its own centre and railway station. The dormitory is located near a big student residential area consisting of dormitories of almost all higher education institutions in Katowice.    

The  standard room is double or triple (one bedroom and shared bathroom). Every room is equipped with basic items of furniture (beds, wardrobe, shelves, lamps, fridge). Bed clothes are provided and laundered regularly free of charge but you need to bring your own towels. One accommodation segment has two rooms and a shared bathroom. There are a few common kitchens on each floor. Free Internet access is available in each room ( requirements: standard ethernet card; twisted pair cable). The gym is free for the inhabitants and so is the tv room with cable tv. Student nightlife surely flourishes in Ligota. Please note that you need a photo for your "Residence Card".

A few thousands students live in Ligota campus, having fun together in various pubs, cafes and clubs situated there. Numerous shops, a canteen and cinema are available locally. You can also play basketball (very popular sport among students) or football on the university sports field if you only feel like it.

In the academic year 2011/12 the prices are:

• PLN 500 (around EUR 120) per month for a place in a double room
• PLN 381 (around EUR 90) per month for a place in a triple room

The booking is registered only after the signed & stamped application documents are sent to us by e-mail, and it should be confirmed by the payment of a deposit of PLN1000 (or EUR 250) to the University's bank account by 15 August for the winter semester, and by 5 January for the spring semester. The deposit will be returned to you at check-out (in case no damages are reported).

Renting a flat

If you don’t feel like living in the student residential area you can always rent a flat on your own with a real estate agency (biuro nieruchomości). The rent depends on the apartment location and usually varies from 150 to 200 EUR for a one-room apartment. You can also rent a flat with other students or share a room – that will probably be much cheaper.
Note that fully equipped flats are usually more expensive.
